When the Bulldogs climbed the National Rugby League’s summit on October 3, 2004 at Telstra Stadium, they washed away more than two years of bitterness. Their seizure of the game’s greatest prize may well be the sweetest act of redemption in the history of Australian sport. After being denied a shot at glory in 2002 because of the well-documented salary cap scandal, then falling one game short of the big one 12 months later, the formidable blue and white machine not only answered their critics but proved their worthiness as legitimate champions and rewarded the patience of their loyal supporters.
