Chitra Dewi is one of the actresses who became a director in the world of Indonesian films, which is still rare. Others are Ratna Asmara (Tuberose Night, 1950) and Sofia WD (South Storm, 1960). In this last film, she won the Citra Award for a female supporting actress at FFI 1979. When asked about her career as a producer she said that she had given up making films.
